Conceptual artist Anna Oppermann studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg and then worked as a freelance artist. It occupies an outstanding position in the visual arts of the 1960s and 70s. Her ensembles are mostly open collections and arrangements, which sometimes consist of several hundred picture canvases, photographs, drawings, sculptures and other objects. Supplemented by tapes and plates, these installations see themselves as processes of image and thought spread out in space. Oppermann took part in documenta 6 and 8 in Kassel as well as in the Venice Biennale and in Sydney. Her ensbembles can still be seen today in various museums, including the Hamburger Kunsthalle. As a permanent installation, the artist set up the ensemble 'Pathosgeste — MGSMO — Mach große Schlagtige Macht demonstraerende Objecte' (1984—1991) in Altona City Hall. It is part of Hamburg's Art in Public Space program.
