Mixed media on panel, 190 x 256 cm. Dated 2020. It's unsigned.
PROVENANCE:
Wetterling Gallery
EXHIBITIONS:
Fact and Fantasies, Avesta Art, 17 May - 13 September, 2020
In the work Untitled (Moth/Skara), Ylva Ceder has captured the fleeting dance of moths around a lonely lamp. With unique technology, she captures the light, fast and slightly uneasy movement of butterflies.
The glow of the lamp makes the surrounding darkness extra tangible and compact, and Ceder lets black be a big part of his work.
In a series of works, Ceder has developed a very own technique in which the special blackness of the works has been created with a gas burner. With the help of the burner, the large boiler has been driven towards charring. Characteristic of Cedar's artistry is her focus on rooms and environments where the human presence is a sensation in the form of a door ajar or the warm light of an adjoining room. In Moth/Skara, the room has been dissolved but the lit lamp reminds us that there are people somewhere nearby.
Ylva Ceder was born in 1976 in Lund, Sweden. She holds a master's degree from Konstfack and has exhibited both internationally and throughout Sweden, including at Passagen, Linköping and Rättviks konsthall. Her work is represented in private and public collections including Malmö Art Museum and Katrineholms Konsthall.
Scratches, thin longitudinal crack right side. The black surface has a flammability due to later treatment.
