The Danish painter and graphic artist Troels Wörsel was an autodicact. He became internationally known in 2007 when he won Denmark in the 52nd represented the Venice Biennale. As early as 1982, the Städtische Kunstmuseum Bonn presented a retrospective on Wörsel. The Wörsel received the Eckersberg Medal in 1995, the first prize of the Carnegie Art Award in 2002 and the Thorvaldsen Medal in 2004.
