ELISABETH WARLING. Flowering elderberry.
3279439. ELISABETH WARLING. Flowering elderberry.

Description

Watercolour on paper, 38 x 25 cm. Signed E Warling.

The object is on display at Nybrogatan 32.

The auction's watercolour is executed with light, hasty brushstrokes that highlight the bright elderflower flowers. It was during her time in Paris that Elisabeth Warling came into contact with Impressionism. She takes impressions of the sketchy painting, and the special relationship of the Impressionists to light and movement. This new one is somewhat different and far more exciting than what was taught at the Art Academy back home in Stockholm.
Elisabeth Warling's works were accepted into significant exhibitions such as the Nordic Exhibition in Copenhagen in 1888, and she was one of the names who represented Sweden at the Baltic Exhibition in Malmö in 1914. In November of the following year Warling passed away and a memorial exhibition of her art was arranged by the Swedish Artists' Association at the Artists' House in Stockholm in 1916. During the Swedish Artists Association's exhibition at Liljevalchs in 1917, a smaller number of works were displayed in her memory.
In common with most other female painters around the turn of the last century, Elisabeth Warling's output was restrained.
