Description

Sgraffito technique. Flintware. Height 14.5 cm.

Provenance: A new style for a new era — Excursions in Art nouveau, Hallwyl Museum, 2022~23.

Within Swedish art nouveau ceramics, Gunnar Wennerberg is among the foremost. It is easy to be caught by his sensibility, his unfailing sense of colour, his easy elegance, his obsession with flowers and vegetation as motifs. My collection of Wennerberg grew rapidly, but now with this auction has begun its desert trek to the market, to hopefully other collectors' green oases.
Wennerberg particularly excelled in four areas of porcelain and ceramics: dinnerware, jasperware, sgraffito, and enamel-painted stoneware. Literature: A new style for a new era — excursions in Art nouveau, catalogue Hallwylska museet, 2022. /MP

Provenance: Magnus Palm, author, editor, collector.
