Description

Model study.
Image dimensions approx. 66x57,5 cm.

Tor Bjurström was the person who came to play a major role in the development of Gothenburg scholorism. He went to Paris in 1908 and was a pupil of Matisse. He was featured in the exhibition that De Unga had in 1910, an exhibition that took the country's art enthusiasts by storm. After that, he moved to Gothenburg where the landscape became a great source of inspiration. In 1920 he became superintendent at the Gothenburg Museum and Drawing School, what later became Valand. Has been there until 1929 and influenced the students to use the color in a new way. It was during this period that what we call the Gothenburg Scholars went to Valand. Tor Bjurström was thus a major part of the coloristic currents that developed in Gothenburg and the far west coast during the 1920s.
