Christian Thomsen (1860—1921) was a Danish sculptor and one of the most influential artists at Royal Copenhagen in the early 20th century. He showed a talent for sculpture early on and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. There he was influenced by the classical sculpture tradition and inspired by antiquity and the Renaissance. He developed his technical skills and understanding of the anatomy of the human body which will resonate in his later work.
In 1898 he became an employee of Royal Copenhagen and worked there until his passing in 1921. He created over 100 figures, often with mythological, historical and rural motifs, in which the human being was often the focus.
