Description

Landscape motifs.
Image dimensions 15 x 11 cm.

Inge Schiöler was born in Strömstad which was also the place where he returned later in life and many motives are from there. He studied at Valand from 1926 to 1928 and had his first solo exhibition at the Swedish-French Art Gallery in Stockholm in 1932. He suffered from mental illness and was cared for nearly 30 years at St. Jörgens Hospital. He painted in periods during this time and by the time he was printed in the 60s the colourite has been screwed up and we see strong colours moving in quick brushstrokes on the canvas.
Drawings on toilet paper were what Schiöler painted when he began to recover from his mental illness in the 40s.
