PROVENANCE The wholesaler and Member of Parliament Gustaf Boman (Gothenburg 1861-1934 Gothenburg); according to label on the back purchased at an exhibition in 1910 for 800 kroner (Probably) Auction, Stockholm, Svensk-Franska Konstgalleriet, Art Auction, March 30, 1944, no. 87 "Spring by Långsjön, Storängen, Oil painting. Cloth. HRS. 85 cm. Bro. 110 cm." EXHIBITIONS Exhibited: (Probably) Stockholm, Swedish Artists Association, Tjugonde exhibition 1912, 1912, no. 200 "Spring morning by a stream" The motif is probably taken from Långsjön outside Storängen in Nacka, where in 1906 Kallstenius had a house built next to the artist Richard Bergh's home. In his catalogue of works (private possession), Kallstenius lists two works with the same title during 1910, “Vårdag vid bäcken”, without specifying locality.
Gustaf Boman was a member of the first chamber 1906-1911 and 1918-1934, elected in Gothenburg's city constituency. He was a member of Gothenburg's city council 1897-1917 and chairman of the city's drätselkammare 1912-1917.
