Alexander Alkhovsky (b. 1947), meal in the countryside, oil on canvas, signed, ca. 60 x 70 cm
Alkhovsky comes from a family of artists and studied at the well-known Academy 'I. E. Repin' in St. Petersburg, where he later worked as a lecturer. The artist has lived alternately in Hamburg and St. Petersburg since 1996 and now enjoys an international reputation. Most recently, the Kunstverein Worpswede showed works by the artist in the 'Blue House'. The Erarta Museum of Modern Art St. Petersburg showed a retrospective in 2018 and in April 2023 the 'Arts Square Gallery' St. Petersburg held a retrospective with Alkovsky's paintings from private collections. The Russian Museum in St. Petersburg owns the work 'Dock Workers' by Alexander Alkhovsky.
His works can be found in numerous public and private collections and still show the influence of the Russian avant-garde of the early 20th century - especially the phase of Cubo-Futurism around Pavel Filonow, which characterizes Alkhovsky's work to this day.
Slight signs of wear.
