Hans-Agne Bertil Jakobsson was a prominent Swedish interior architect and furniture designer. He was born on February 8, 1919 in Havdhem parish, Gotland county, and died on June 29, 2009 in Markaryd parish, Kronoberg county. After completing his apprenticeship as a carpenter, he studied architecture in Gothenburg and then began his career as an industrial designer at General Motors.
During his early career, he worked as an assistant to famous furniture designers such as Carl Malmsten and Werner West. In 1951, he founded his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, where he became known for his design of lighting fixtures. His creations in lighting design have become collectibles and noted for their soft and glare-free light. Jakobsson's work was inspired by designers such as Poul Henningsen and Alvar Aalto.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson's skill spanned a variety of materials, including brass, iron, glass, fabric and even wood shavings. His importance in lighting fixtures is significant, and his work continues to distribute well-balanced light to succeeding generations.
