frame dimensions approx. 37x47 cm CHARLOTTE JOHANNESSON Charlotte Johannesson is a Swedish text and digital artist. She was the first Swedish woman to use computers in her artistry.
In other words, Charlotte Johannesson is a pioneer in digital art.
Together with husband Sture Johannesson, they made trips to Los Angeles where they hung out in the circle around Steve Wozniak at Apple.
The American computer company helped with work materials and the Malmö couple Johannesson had access to one of the most advanced Apple systems of the time. Their artist collective Digitalteatern was Sweden's first digital graphic studio which, among other things, consisted of 9 Apple IIs as well as printers, light pens, synthesizers etc. In their studio during the 1970s and 1980s, the pair created, among other things, the ground-breaking suite with Björn Borg, Boy George, David Bowie and Ahmed Shah Massoud.

Charlotte Johannesson has recently been discovered by the institutions and was presented with an exhibition at Malmö Konsthall in 2017. This was the starting point for a series of subsequent exhibitions in Europe, which was crowned with an exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 2022.
The biennale's curator Cecilia Alemani invited the three Swedish artists Charlotte Johannesson as well as Ulla Wiggen and Britta Marakatt-Labba to the biennale's main exhibition "The Milk of Dreams".
This was the 59th edition of La Biennale di Venezia. The Venice Art Biennale is the oldest and considered by many to be the most important art biennale in the world.
