Minimum price 150 EUR Photogravure Bruckmann (bottom right, left (Arnold Böcklin pinx.), lower edge of picture: Museum in Basel, Heiliger Hain, Photographic Union Munich.
Dimensions: 78 x 99 cm (height x width) 59.5 x 76 cm only sheet (height x width) The emergence of photogravure is closely linked to the beginnings of photography. When the principles of photography were researched across Europe in the first half of the 19th century, the preliminary stages of photogravure were also developed.
The Frenchman Joseph Niepce made the first attempts to use photogravure to reproduce etchings in the 1820s. Heliogravure (or photogravure) is an old gravure printing process for transferring photographic templates onto copper plates. The plate, which is grained with an aquatint grain, is coated with a light-sensitive layer of gelatine, which can be selectively removed after exposure through a positive. The finest shades of gray are produced by etching in several acid baths of different concentrations, with no screening being necessary.
Photogravure makes it possible to combine the realistic reproduction of a photo with the aesthetics of a print.
Very good condition.
