Alkhovsky comes from a family of artists and studied at the well-known Academy 'I. E. Repin' in St. Petersburg, where he also worked as a lecturer in the following period. Since 1996, the artist has lived alternately in Hamburg and St. Petersburg and is now internationally renowned. Recently, the Kunstverein Worpswede showed works by the artist in the 'Blue House. ' The Erarta Museum of Modern Art St. Petersburg presented a work exhibition in 2018 and in April 2023, a retrospective of Alkovsky's paintings from private collections took place at the 'Arts Square Gallery in St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg Russian Museum owns the work 'Dock Worker' by Alexander Alkhovsky.
His works can be found in numerous public and private collections and still show the influence of the Russian avant-garde of the early 20th century — particularly the phase of cubo-futurism around Pavel Filonov, which continues to shape Alkhovsky's work today.
