Description
Alfred Bergström (1869-1930), Winter landscape in the evening light, oil on canvas, 1911, signed and dated "Alfr. Bergstrom 1911", ca. 92 x 120 cm, with frame approx. 108x135 cm.
PROVENANCE: Private collection Northern Germany, acquired from grandfather in Karlskrona/Sweden in 1981.
The Swedish painter and art professor. Bergström first learned from his father, an engraver. He attended the Royal Academy, where he later worked as a professor. Study trips took him to France, North Africa and the Netherlands. In addition to seascapes and cityscapes, Bergström primarily painted details of nature in the broad brushstrokes of plein-air painting. The winter landscape was one of his favorite motifs.
Condition
Small horizontal tear in the upper left image area, small dent in the upper right area, partially craquelure. Frame with signs of wear.
