approx. 17x28 cm frame size 25x34 cm BIRGITTA (BRITTA) ROLANDER VON SCHANTZ Birgitta Rolander von Schantz was married to the artist Philip von Schantz (1928-1998). When Philip von Schantz in his memoirs "The Sign of the Fish" (Bonniers publishing house 1997) writes about his wife and fellow artist, her artistry is illustrated with an almost identical sheep study in watercolor, done three years earlier.
Philip von Schantz writes about his wife: "We found each other at Pernby's painting school and since then have taken part in each other's work practically every single day. If I myself am the first observer, then Britta is in any case the second... In 1978, Britta had her first solo exhibition as a painter at Galleri Prisma in Stockholm. The exhibition was a success. Among the exhibited works were some sensitive portraits, including a portrait of me that the National Museum bought for the State's portrait collection.
"Her pictures are filled with a vegetative peace that rarely comes to people and art anymore", writes Olle Granath in Dagens Nyheter, and Beate Sydhoff states in Svenska Dagbladet that "In both the paintings and drawings, she depicts a 'still life' that from outside its reducing point in the room spreads sensitivity and warmth.” Later, Britta has had solo exhibitions in, among other places, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Västerås and Umeå and participated in a number of collective exhibitions. Together, however, we have appeared only a few times.".
