Description

Magnus Weidemann (1880-1966), Ebbe vor Keitum, watercolor on cardboard, 1943, monogrammed and dated lower right, signed and dated again as well as titled on the reverse and with the work number "M12087", approx. 21.5 x 37.4 cm, with frame approx. 10" x 16"

Born in Hamburg, he first studied theology, but also devoted himself to painting, especially watercolor painting. His works are influenced by the plein air painting of the turn of the century. For the Altonaer Museum he created five large murals of Schleswig-Holstein landscapes, including dunes and mud flats on Sylt and the Kremper Marsch. In 1926 he settled in Keitum on Sylt. Weidemann was a member of the Reich Association of Fine Artists in Germany and the Schleswig-Holstein Art Association. Today his works can be found in many north German museums, such as the Museumsberg Flensburg, the Altonaer Museum or the Sylter Heimatmuseum.
