Length approx. 12 cm PROVENANCE: The objects originally come from the so-called La Recherche expedition 1838-1840.
This research trip, which was financed by the French state, aimed at the Arctic area from the North Cape to Spitsbergen and consisted of researchers from France, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, as well as artists and writers from France. As was often the case with this type of expedition, it had both scientific and artistic ambitions, where the natural sciences of the time were combined with a burgeoning ethnological faculty. Lars Levi Laestadius was the guide for the part of the expedition that was going to Karesuando. In connection with Sami settlements being reached, they both depicted what they saw and also collected objects. During the end of the 20th century, Michel Meyer acquired these Sami objects in France and from them the current owner acquired the objects that are now sold at Stockholms Auktionsverk.
