Collijn, Swedish bibliography 17th century column 831. Warmholtz 348.

One of the first consistently carried out Swedish topographical-antiquarian surveys. However, Uppsala was a sensitive subject, not least in light of Rudbeck's soon-to-be-published Atlantica, and Schefferu's work on Uppsala is the starting point for the great feud between himself on the one hand and Olof Verelius (and in the background Olof Rudbeck) on the other about the age of Uppsala and location. The old pagan temple was located here, Schefferus claimed, and relied on i.a. Ericus Olai, not at Gamla Uppsala but within the present city of Uppsala, and particularly old as it is, not older than anything before the birth of Christ.
