In order for art to transform from a purely aesthetic experience to something that truly touches the viewer's soul, the artist must dare to take the leap over the artistic distancing that too often attracts the practitioner with its security-creating atmosphere. However, not everyone is able to meet the requirement of authenticity in the artistic process. Even fewer are the artists who dare to be directly self-disclosing in their art.

An artist who has really succeeded in breaking down the barrier between the practitioner and the viewer is Elin Källman. In her art, she often uses herself as a model, or rather as an actor in the world that is hers. Without filters, she shows both her strength and her fragility as a person in the paintings.

Already during her time at the Royal Academy of Arts in 2000-2005, Elin's great talent was noticed and she was awarded the Academy of Arts' graduation scholarship. As a viewer of her paintings, you are struck not least by the fact that she is basically a fantastic draftsman. Drawing forms the basis of all painting. Whoever masters drawing also has full freedom to express himself in his painting, and this freedom is something that characterizes Elin Källman's artistry.

Before Elin Källman's painting, comparisons have been made with Linn Fernström. Undoubtedly, parallels can be found between the two generational peers. Both let the woman have the main role in their respective pictorial worlds, but while in Linn Fernström's painting there is a cool mastery and austerity, which to some extent reminds of the expression of graphic artists, Elin Källman is more unrestrainedly expressive and direct in her painting. The distance between thought and expression is significantly shorter with Elin and thus her art is characterized by a nerve that grips the viewer. There is simply a bit more of rock'n'roll in the paintings, which means that you as a viewer get the feeling of being part of an ongoing process and it is precisely this feeling that makes Elin Källman's art so irresistible.

Elin Källman Born 1977 in Vadstena, lives and works in Stockholm Education: 1996-1997 Lunnevads Folkhögskola, Linköping 1997-2000 Hovedskous Painting School, Gothenburg 2000-2005 Academy of Fine Arts, Stockholm Scholarships: 2004 Ida Unman's scholarship fund, Stockholm 2004 Liljeson's foundation, Motala 2004 Fredrika Bremer scholarship, Stockholm 2005 Art Academy's graduation scholarship, Stockholm 2005 Anna-Lisa Thomson foundation, Uppsala 2006 Arts Council's work scholarship.
