SCULPTURE. Byzantine horse, green patinated bronze, contemporary.

Length about 27, height about 32.5 cm.

Based on a bronze horse on Blasieholmstorg in Stockholm, which is a casting of the Byzantine horses at St. Mark's Church in Venice. The horses are dated to sometime between the 300s BC to the 300s AD. They came to Venice from Constantinople in the 13th century as booty. The horses also marked Napoleon's triumphal arch in Paris but were returned to Venice in 1815.
