Optical composition. 91 x 91 cm (diagonal).
Exhibited: The exhibition "Konkret", Galerie Jan Lundberg, Malmö, 1988, with Inger Ekdahl, Olle Baertling, Eric H Olson and Nils Nixon.
Inger Ekdahl was a Swedish painter and one of the first women in Sweden to work with non-figurative art. She trained at Isaac Grünewald's painting school in Stockholm in the mid-1940s and this was followed by a short stay at Otte Sköld's painting school. However, Europe attracted more and Ekdahl went with her husband, the artist Eric H Olson, to Switzerland and Italy. Then followed a longer stay in Paris where the couple came into contact with the avant-garde and artists such as Jean Arp, Victor Vasarely, César and Seuphor.
The legendary gallerist Denise Réne, who was a good friend of Inger's, also sold Ekdahl's paintings. In the 1970s and 80s, Inger Ekdahl became interested in optical painting, of which this painting is a fine example.
