Description
Erich Mercker (1891-1973), Sirocco surf on Sicily, oil on canvas, around 1930, signed and inscribed 'Mchn' (Munich) lower right, titled on the reverse of the stretcher in red colored pencil, with an old label 'Ständige Kunst-Ausstellung der Münchener Künstler-Genossenschaft' and several times handwritten with the number '6276', approx. 160 x 204 cm, with heavy stucco frame approx. 184x228 cm.
In the 1920s, Mercker undertook study trips to Austria, Italy, southern France, Sweden and Norway and joined the Munich artists' cooperative. In 1937 he took part in the World Exhibition in Paris and received a large gold medal for his monumental oil paintings. He liked to paint his impressionistic landscapes with a spatula. Later he made a name for himself primarily as an industrial painter.
