Publisher's green cloth with gilt title on spine and gilt reproduction of Thoreau's signature on front board, top edge gilt. Binding slightly worn. First leaf near loose, with presentation in ink, dated June 21st 1884.
First edition. Thoreau's friend Blake was entrusted with the manuscripts by the author's widow. The Journals were published as 'Early Spring in Massachusetts', 'Summer', 'Autumn' and 'Winter' respectively the years 1881-92 Provenance: Tor Morisse (1947-2017), Norwegian illustrator, children's writer and comics creator. Morisse, who lived and worked in Sweden, illustrated more than 300 books, especially children's books, by authors including Lennart Hellsing, Hans Pettersson, Bjørn Rønningen and Frid Ingulstad. His first drawings were published in Kamratposten in the late 70s. In 1986. he started his own publishing house. In 2002, he received the Golden Pen of "Publicistklubben".
