1830166. KRYGER'S NATURAL THEOLOGY.

Description

KRYGER, JOHAN, FREDRIK. Natural theology, that is: The knowledge and worship of God founded in reason and nature. I-III. Stockholm, Lars Salvius, 1753/Johan Georg Lange, 1783.
8th. 175 x 100 mm. (16), 248, ((8); 328, (8); (42), 29-262, (10) p. Somewhat worn contemporary half-French binding with splatter-decorated endpapers and blown cuts. Occasional small stains. Signature on the title page of the first part.

Part I-II in the second edition, part III in the first, with title page in red and black. I: Of the Necessity of God's Grace. II: On God's Being and Attributes. III: Of the natural state of man, and the means of recovering his lost happiness, and the necessity and marks of revelation. Johan Fredrik Kryger (1707-1777), Swedish official and writer and strongly influenced by Herrnhutism. Natural theology is a defense of the enlightened orthodoxy and a review held in a mercantilist spirit of all the natural treasures God has enriched Sweden and its inhabitants with.

Provenance: Clas Ifvarsson (1941-2012), CEO and CEO of Stockholm Stadshus AB. Former CEO of a couple of companies within the city of Stockholm and for a period active in municipal politics. His impressive book collection consisted for the most part of Swedish wit from the 17th-19th centuries, but also of many other important works with an emphasis on Sweden. Ifvarsson was very interested in cultural history and was also a committed and knowledgeable collector, which was evident in his extensive library.
