Description
Christian Carl Magnussen (1821-1896), pilgrimage route in Italy, probably 1853, monogrammed 'CCM' and illegibly dated and inscribed 'Rom', approx. 63x75 cm.
The artist, who comes from Bredstedt in North Friesland, studied at the Royal Art Academy in Copenhagen. Around 1850, the artist stayed in Rome several times, where he worked, among other things, on pictures from Italian folk life. He later settled in Hamburg as a portrait painter.
PROVENANCE: Owned by the artist's family.
Condition
Age-related with craquelée and minor color losses. Retouching on the right edge, backed here on the reverse, smaller retouchings only in the sky area.
