Description

KERSTIN HEDEBY-PAWLO (Sweden, born 1926): Composition, signed and dated Kerstin Hedeby 1984, mixed media on paper, approx. 100.5x74.5 cm Kerstin Hedeby scenography, painting and portrait "After studying at Anders Beckman's school and the Art Academy, Kerstin got Hedeby made an early debut in 1957 as set designer at Malmö Stadsteater with Moliere's "The Misanthrope" directed by Ingmar Bergman. In her work for the theatre, as set designer and costume designer, Kerstin Hedeby was given free rein for her artistic ambitions and imagination, while her bold colorism could have an undertone of music. Hedeby adapted to the character of the various plays, whether it was 17th-century baroque in The Misanthrope or a historicizing surrealism in the costume sketches for Lars Norén's debut play "Fursteslickaren" at Dramaten... As a painter and freelance artist, Kerstin Hedeby had her debut in 1957 at Gummeson art gallery in Stockholm. Apart from the color qualities of her painting, its intensity and sonority, it was above all the expressive feature of her depictions of people that attracted the interest of audiences and critics. According to reviewer Torsten Bergmark, it was "one of the most interesting debuts in a long time". In particular, attention was paid to the children's portraits and comparisons were made with Siri Derkert and Vera Nilsson." Source: Press release Exhibition at Prins Eugen's Waldemarsudde 2001 REPRESENTED: Dansmuseet, Malmö Museum, Moderna Museet, Nationalmuseum etc.
