Meissen, plate, onion pattern pierced, porcelain, 1. Wahl, Knauf period (1860-1924), diameter: 20 cm.
During the Baroque period, there was a veritable fashion for China in Europe, which is not least due to the fascination with Chinese porcelain. Saxony's elector is particularly taken with the blue-painted porcelain and he is asking for pieces of the same quality from his manufactory. His urging is fundamental for the intensive preoccupation with the cobalt blue underglaze painting. After the invention of the first European porcelain in 1708, Johann Friedrich Böttger made attempts to produce an underglaze blue. However, only after a number of further improvements to the recipe did the complaints about the underglaze blue painting recede in 1739.
Good condition, see pictures.
