Carl Perkins, a rockabilly pioneer, introduced in the 1950s together with another significant rock'n'roll personality, Elvis Presley, a new type of southern music, based on rhythm and blues and country. Both Perkins and Presley were under contract with Sun Records at the time. In December 1955, Carl Perkins recorded the song "Blue Suede Shoes", which quickly became the signature tune of the rockabilly genre. However, Perkins' original version was the first rock'n'roll song to hit the pop, country and rhythm and blues charts at the same time.
