Hyltén-Cavallius is regarded as the father of Swedish ethnology. The work deals with folk beliefs in Värend in southern Småland. Hyltén-Cavallius addresses, among other things, remnants of pagan cults and pagan beliefs, which is why the work is often presented as evidence that asatron has survived in a distorted form into modern times.
