Online talk

Tuesday, 16 June, 7.00–7.45 pm BST

Many objects we now regard as iconic began through accidents, missteps or unexpected experiments. What was once seen as a flaw, a side track or a failure sometimes went on to shape entirely new forms — and to secure a lasting place in history.

In this talk, we explore how chance, misuse and unforeseen outcomes gave rise to objects that later became classics. Moving across everyday items, industrial products, art, craft and designed objects, we examine why these moments of serendipity continue to fascinate collectors, historians and enthusiasts today.
