Garpenhus Auktioner highlights yet another modernist artist by presenting 27 works by Margit Wessbrandt.
Born in 1917 in Gothenburg to a father who owned a carriage business and a mother who ran a café, she pursued art studies after her schooling. She took courses with notable artists such as Tore Ahnoff, Börge Hovedskou, Lennart Ason, and Saga Walli. During the 1940s, she married Sture Wessbrandt, and the couple moved to Kristinehamn. In the latter half of the decade, she devoted herself extensively to her painting. Many of the works offered here were created during this period.
The themes of her paintings range freely between still lifes, landscapes, and more abstract compositions.
