Sometimes, good can come from something difficult. This was the case when Höganäsbolaget discontinued its art ceramic production in the mid-1920s. By that time, Åke Holm had already been there for over a decade. In 1928, he and his brother established their own workshop, and after a few years, during the 1930s, Holm began creating the distinctive figures for which he became well known. These figures, often large and stylized biblical forms, exude a certain gravity and monumental quality.
Now, Crafoord Auktioner Malmö presents a theme that focuses on another aspect of Holm's work, particularly his terracotta figures. These pieces, more free in expression than his monumental biblical figures, offer a glimpse into Holm’s versatility. The theme also includes wheel-thrown pottery, another significant part of Holm's production.
