An ocean-going cargo ship—that's where it all began. Sven Holm's drawing career took off during his youth when he signed on as a seaman and, in his spare time, nurtured his artistic interest. Upon returning to Swedish soil, he enrolled at Beckmans School of Design and later at Konstfack. His debut came at Galleri S
Nikolaus in Stockholm in 1967, marking the start of a long artistic career.
Now, as Stockholms Auktionsverk presents a focused collection of Holm’s works, we are offered a glimpse into several facets of his painting style. Among the pieces are his solitary male figures, placed in somber, muted interiors in shades of gray and brown. One figure relaxes in a rocking chair, another smokes a cigarette, and a third sits silently before a set table. We are also introduced to Holm's rich, earthy landscapes, along with a few lighter watercolors, and a selection of his drawing work.
