Stockholms Auktionsverk takes us on a journey through time to an era when spring-driven and verge escapement could be crucial for the accessories of a well-dressed figure. It wasn't enough to wear a three-piece suit and a top hat; a properly equipped gentleman would of course also have a pocket watch. And one often thinks of the late 19th century or possibly the following turn of the century. However, as early as 1511, clockmaker Peter Henlein was credited with inventing a portable timepiece that could be worn on the chest or in the pocket. It is thus a tradition of over 500 years that comes to light as Stockholm's Auction House now presents the theme of Pocket Watches - Time as a Symbol of Power.
29 timepieces are available, manufactured by several of the most renowned firms. Particularly notable is a so-called Jacquemart from Breguet, in a spectacular design. But it is just one of several remarkable pieces.
We welcome both connoisseurs and the curious!
