Crafoord Auctions in Lund is returning to the Earth's second-largest continent with a theme of 52 lots now going under the hammer under the title "Africana." Alongside a spoon, a couple of boxes, a beautifully colored shield, a "prestige ax," and a few short swords, the main focus is on figures and masks in this presentation. Among the expected highlights are two works from the latter category. First, a 129 cm tall so-called "plank mask," which was displayed at the Malmö Konsthall in 1986 in connection with the African exhibition. Second, a spectacular helmet mask with the same provenance from Skåne. There is also a piece of furniture in the selection, a ceremonial chair from Yoruba, Nigeria.
