It's as if metal utility items concentrate the elegance of that era. A woman in a bar with a cigarette holder. Charles Lindbergh's scarf flowing backward like a flag halfway across the Atlantic. Jazz bubbling up from the basements of black clubs, followed by the swing era with all that it brought.
When confronted with the items in the theme "Modern Metal," they seem to have embodied the general spirit of their time. Take, for example, the tobacco tin from GAB, strictly classic, like an architectural bronze detail, serious but always at hand for the smoker. Or the cream dispenser from Firma Grann & Laglye, indispensable when serving with a touch of cool grace. Or why not Sune Bäckström's pair of bronze candleholders in a kind of seed-house shape, cast in Malmö in the 1930s?
These are just a few randomly selected from the theme's nearly 90 lots. But there's much more, spanning from the Art Nouveau period well into the 20th century. Surely, you'll find your own favorites.
