The art of glass is a dance of light and shadow, an eternal snapshot of the artist's soul encapsulated in a delicate and shimmering medium. It boasts an extensive and versatile history, reaching back to ancient civilizations such as Egypt and Rome. During the Renaissance, glass workshops in Venice embarked on pioneering new techniques to craft astounding glass artifacts, thus ushering in a fresh epoch of contemporary glass art. In the 20th century, Nordic glass art flourished through renowned glassworks like Kosta, Iittala, Reijmyre, Orrefors, and Nuutajärvi. These establishments came to epitomize the Nordic style: marked by simplicity, clean lines, and a reflection of nature's beauty. This essence is interwoven with innovative expressions that transcend boundaries through modernistic forms and techniques, wherein artists possess the courage to redefine aesthetics and create contemporary pieces that push the limits of what art glass can be. We present a selection from these glassworks and more, featuring highlights including the sparkling sun flasks by Helena Tynell, the striking Art Deco flair of Gerda Strömberg's 1930 vase "Vallmo," and the feather-patterned "Sulka" bowl by Tapio Wirkkala, among others.
