LEKA Sweden was an unusual children's furniture company that existed in Örnsköldsvik between 2007 - 2012. The company's products - were all designed by Yngve Eriksson, who started from her mother-in-law Evy Westerberg Lindquist's pioneering children's furniture that was manufactured and sold during the 60's. Evy's products – the Trojan horse, children's tables and children's chairs etc. were in all weekly newspapers, often together with an advice column for children's room furnishings. The products were sold through her father's design furniture store on Flemminggatan in Stockholm - Gösta Westerbergs Möbler - which was the watering hole for trendy interiors at the time and introduced e.g. Alvar Aaltos and Eilersen's furniture in Sweden. Even Bloomingdales in New York sold Evy's fine products, which were all made of Swedish pine. Yngve, who is a trained designer with long experience from Paris, updated the products and also added a storage series and nursery furniture - all with soft rounded edges and corners, cheerful colors - all furniture has playful details, the furniture is made of both wood and MDF.
LEKA Sweden was successful with more than 100 design furniture customers in Scandinavia – the Trojan horse got its own exhibition at the Nordic Museum and the company got Norwegian owners in 2010 who unfortunately got into financial problems in 2012, which is why the business was shut down. Google LEKA Sweden and select images - a large number of LEKA products will then appear!
Stadsauktion Sundsvall is now selling off the remaining products and prototypes, which is therefore the very last opportunity to buy genuine LEKA Sweden products.
