Although it might seem Asia and Europe are miles apart when it comes to lifestyle and culture, the Asian way of life has had great influence on western society. European collectors, noblemen, artists, connoisseurs and royals have been fascinated by Asia for centuries, leading to western countries being massive consumers of Asian goods such as silk, tea, lacquer, metalwork, hardwood furniture, ceramics and dominantly porcelain. Crafoord Auctions in Stockholm are proud to present Asian Sale, an auction containing fine Chinese, Japanese and Korean works of art. The most impressive lot is a very large famille verte fish bowl painted with figure scenes against a densely patterned ground. Another highlight is a slender underglaze blue and white vase decorated with magpies and flowering magnolia, capturing the spirit of artistic liberation during the Chinese transitional period between the Ming and Qing dynasties. Other honorable mentions are an unusual Chinese celadon glazed vase decorated with bats, painted in underglaze blue and copper red, a detailed Japanese woodblock print by Yoshitoshi representing a scene from the play ”Hanafubuki" (Falling Cherry Blossoms) and an elegantly shaped Chinese apple-green crackle-glazed vase from the late Qing dynasty. Welcome!
