Crafoord Auktioner takes on a venerable collecting field as it presents more than 70 lots under the heading Militaria. And for anyone who delights in the arcane terminology of old regiments, this is a pleasure to read from start to finish. After all, how often does one encounter a trombone pistol, a breech-loading rifle, a pair of pistols, a sledge gun, a sabre for a sharpshooters’ regimental band, or a left-hand dagger?
Among the highlights are a pair of flintlock rifles intended for hunting. Naturally, the Colt Army 1860 percussion revolver—manufactured in 1863, with walnut grips—also stands out, as does a rifle made by John Krider of Philadelphia.
On the lighter side are some of the fairground rifles, while the miner’s axe may well be the sharpest object on offer. And then there is the sword of a high-ranking officer in the French army—surely the most elegant of them all.
Welcome!
