Who is greater than Björn Borg?
Probably no one. At least not on the tennis court. Five consecutive Wimbledon titles. Six French Open victories. His very first triumph on the red clay of Roland Garros came in 1974, when he became the youngest player ever to win the tournament. For years, he was a nightmare for fiery racket icons like Connors and McEnroe, thanks to his almost unbeatable ability to always return the ball over the net. But of course, he had practiced. As a child, he stood day after day, hitting balls against a garage door before quickly beginning to collect titles in youth tennis. In time, he became a living legend.
And now, Auktionshuset Thörner & Ek is proud to present a themed auction with objects all originating from Björn Borg’s family. And what a wonderfully unusual mix it is! A sword (!) presented to Borg by manufacturer Wilkinson in connection with the 1978 edition of Wimbledon – not exactly an everyday sight. The same goes for Walter Iooss Jr.’s photograph depicting Andy Samberg as “McEnroe & Borg” or cartoonist Anders’ “Game Set & Gold.”
A warm welcome!
