There’s something undeniably special about pocket watches. That’s just the way it is. They captivate and fascinate, and for centuries they’ve been a favorite among collectors from around the world. According to history books, it all began in 16th-century Germany. Peter Henlein, a locksmith and watchmaker by trade, designed a drum-shaped pocket watch that could run for nearly two days without being wound. Not surprisingly, pocket watches became hugely popular—a stylish, and very useful!—accessory for the well-to-do.
It wasn’t really until a few decades into the 20th century, when the wristwatch took the world by storm, that the pocket watch ceased to be seen as the indispensable mechanical marvel it had long been considered.
But now, just like then, pocket watches with their precise movements continue to hold a near-magical allure for collectors. At Helsingborgs Auktionskammare, we are now presented with a wide selection of pocket watches in various designs and from different periods. Several classic Omega watches in silver are up for auction, along with 14K gold savonettes and many other models besides.
A warm welcome!
