The Great Cola War has reached Kalmar.
It’s been going on for a long time. In the 1970s, Pepsi turned the world upside down with its (VERY SUCCESSFUL) blind taste tests. Then in 1985, Coca-Cola launched a new flavor based on a new recipe. The cans were labeled NEW, and thus it got its name. Loyal Coca-Cola drinkers went wild. They demanded the original back. And they got their way—New Coke vanished from the shelves.
The battles were fought in newspapers, on television, and in cinemas, where one ad campaign outdid the next. Michael Jackson drank Pepsi. Whitney Houston drank Coca-Cola. Roger Enrico and Jesse Kornbluth even wrote a bestselling book on the subject.
Now, as mentioned, the battle has reached Kalmar—more specifically, Auktionsfirma Kenneth Svensson in Kalmar, which is presenting Cola War: a collection of 33 fizzy lots. Expect plenty of signs, a clock, a soda crate, and of course, all the merch that collectors love.
Welcome!
P.S. Did you know that New Coke was relaunched in 2019?
It was part of the third season of Stranger Things, with 175,000 cans produced.
