It was Gustav III who founded the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in his time. Talented students were to be trained in an academic manner following European models. The education was guided by classical ideals, and from within the academy’s halls, skilled graduates emerged, equipped with the tools needed to pursue a career as artists.
With the help of Gomér & Andersson Nyköping, we now step inside the institution’s doors to explore a variety of student works. Here, we encounter portraits, nude studies, and masterfully rendered depictions of ancient artifacts and elements. Many of these works date back to the late 19th century—a dynamic and transformative era in Swedish art history.
