Indeed, it was before the advent of the schnapps glass that tumblers and shot cups had their heyday. Small, handy, and highly functional, they were a must-have in the well-to-do circles of Swedish homes. Naturally, silversmiths began crafting particularly fine examples, ornamented in the fashion of the time.
At Crafoord Auktioner Malmö, we present eleven examples of this art in a theme designed for connoisseurs and collectors. Among the featured shot cups are 18th-century works by Peter Gillberg and Sven Wibling. The strict, internally gilded tumbler from the Malmö firm Hallengren & Sandberg, stamped in 1892, is by far the youngest in the theme. Yet, it is so modern in its design that it would feel new if it were introduced to the market today.
We warmly welcome you to enjoy Tumblers & Cups!
