Crafoord Auktioner Stockholm is pleased to present 39 original works by the artist Kia Kinell. Auction on November 29.
Kia Kinell (born 1953) has a distinct personal style in her painting. She works with simplified compositions, where, for example, a lonely house can become the main content. She intentionally withholds details in favor of simplicity, contrasts, and color. She paints in acrylic, gouache, and watercolor, and also uses ink, crayons, and collage techniques.
"I have taken my own path to my artistry. I have painted for contemporary artists such as Marianne Chayet, Ylva and Peter Sager, and with the artist Anders Wallin. I started painting 30 years ago and have developed my painting with a broad range, yet there is a common thread in everything I do. For me, painting is a way of thinking. I like to create narrative images without too much detail information. My color palette can be strict, and in another image, a color explosion. The colors and associations the images and paintings create have a meaning for me, while the viewer, of course, associates in their own ways. If an image can change your thoughts, then your life can also change. Another aspect is contrasts and their significance to me. The contrasts in my paintings are strongly pronounced differences that sometimes turn into opposites in my paintings. Water is my best friend, and water takes care of itself in my paintings. I strive for an expressive style where the combination of light, depth, and contrasts becomes prominent."
