It truly could have been something other than lamps. Brothers Uno and Östen Kristiansson quite literally grew up in a furniture factory. In the 1940s, Uno was connected to the ASEA group, gaining experience at the Mimer workshop before taking a drafting position at ASEA’s “inventors’ office.” Östen, on the other hand, trained as a sculptor’s apprentice at Åhlins Bildhuggarverkstad in Åsljunga.
Perhaps it was Uno’s time at Ludvika Works’ Rectifier Bureau in the autumn of 1948 that sealed their fate. One way or another, lamps became their path—and the rest, as they say, is history.
A part of that history comes to life as Crafoord Auctions Stockholm now presents 45 lots from Luxus. The selection is exemplary, featuring everything from teak lamps with opal glass to silver-foiled lamp bases and numerous models from the acrylic era.
Which pieces stand out? Which lamp could be considered the finest? That, in the end, is simply a matter of personal taste.
See for yourselves!
