"Pine is the wood from the pine tree." A description of one of the most common types of wood can start like that. Pine is used for paper pulp, construction, fuel, and, notably, furniture production. But the magic has occurred somewhere within the latter category, and it's not about newly manufactured pine furniture, but rather models from the modern era – from 1930s sport cabin furniture to the colossal-sized pieces of the 1970s living room. Crafoord Auctions in Malmö is now dedicating a themed auction to pine, spanning over 70 lots. The collection includes chairs, benches, a couple of armchairs, storage furniture, and various types of lamps. The heaviest piece in the theme is a 190 cm wide bed, while Hans-Agne Jakobsson's veneer lamps are among the lightest. Among them, you'll find a fine mix of models, some from well-known designers (Yngve Ekström, Børge Mogensen, and Aksel Kjersgaard, among others), while others were created by relatively unknown designers today. What unites them all is pine, which has enjoyed a strong renaissance in popularity in recent years. As someone expressed it: "In the past, pine burned well, but now it's hotter than ever."
