The department of Arms & Militaria reaches far, far back into history. It is a broad field encompassing everything from edged weapons and firearms to uniform accessories, orders, literature and a good deal of curious objects besides.
When Auktionshuset Kolonn launches its themed auction Arms & Militaria, we are presented with just such a rich and varied selection in a catalogue comprising just over 140 lots.
Among the edged weapons, a pallasch model m/1773 for the Life Regiment of Horse, a smallsword bearing the ciphers of Carl XIV Johan and Crown Prince Oscar, and a katana from the Edo period are all on offer. Alongside these, a flintlock pistol model m/1738, a percussion rifle from Husqvarna and a percussion pistol signed Guillaume Berleur are also included.
And to pick out a selection of the remaining items, mention should be made of several finely crafted ship models in display cases, salute cannons, tin soldiers, boat models, a pair of coats of arms with provenance from the vaulted cellars of the Royal Palace in Warsaw, and an Indo-Persian steel shield.
